Company history

LPolsterer

In 1869, Ludwig Polsterer, founder of the company with the same name, rented a mill close to Moosbrunn (NA) before going on to rent the mill in Tattendorf (NA).

He purchased the wheat mill in Enzersdorf an der Fischa (NA) in 1880. After a further 10 years, he also acquired the neighbouring rye mill on the opposing bank of the Fischa. The two operations were combined and the company’s full name has been in existence since then - LUDWIG POLSTERER - VEREINIGTE WALZMÜHLEN.

During the years that followed, the old water wheels were exchanged for Voith-Francis turbines, the mill buildings were extended to two storeys and the company site connected to the ÖBB railway network.

Following a large fire in 1917, the rye mill was completely rebuilt.

The difficult times during the Second World War slowed down the company’s development. Only in 1960 did a complete refurbishment of the mills take place, with the installation of modern systems.

In the 1970’s, two new concrete silos were constructed for a further 8,500 tons of grain and a silo vehicle was also purchased. The mills were expanded to incorporate electronically-controlled flour and bran silos and a flour mixing machine.

The entry of Austria into the European Union brought with it a time of unrest for Austrian millers. Since 1995 many companies have shut down, usually for economic reasons.

Contrary to this trend in the milling industry, LUDWIG POLSTERER – VEREINIGTE WALZMÜHLEN was just about to come into success again.

Since 2000, significant investment has once again taken place within the company. The company extensively expanded its production capacities in 2005 and 2006.

The company LUDWIG POLSTERER – VEREINIGTE WALZMÜHLEN is now one of the 10 best performing mills in Austria and is undergoing improvement by its exceptional team all the time.
